About Dr. Pathma
Dr. Pathmanathan is Senior Consultant Pathologist and Laboratory Director in the Sime Darby Medical Centre, Subang Jaya. In addition, he holds two Professorial positions currently – he is Adjunct Professor of Pathology in Manipal University (Manipal campus) and the Professor of Anatomical Pathology in Monash University, (Sunway campus). Professor Pathmanathan graduated from the University of Malaya in 1978, completed his Master of Pathology with distinction, and was at that time the first, and continues to be among the few to be awarded a distinction for a doctoral thesis in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya. He is also a Fellow Member of both the Royal Colleges of UK and Australasia and is an active Member of the College of American Pathologists. Before leaving the Faculty of Medicine, University of Malaya for private practice in 1998, he was Professor of Pathology and Deputy Dean, Postgraduate Affairs. He has received many awards and travelling Fellowships, and has served as Consultant to the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Regensburg Tumour Registry and has worked as a Consultant in Head and Neck Pathology to the Lineberger Cancer Comprehensive Cancer Research Centre. He was also on the Board of the American International Laboratories associated with Johns Hopkins University and was briefly a local advisor for Amcare Malaysia. He is an advisor to a number of local and international biotechnology companies, and is managing director of 2 of his own companies – Pathnet Sdn Bhd and Wellcode Sdn Bhd. He continues to be involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and has served as examiner in Pathology both locally and overseas. He is an established researcher with more than 200 scientific publications in international and peer-reviewed journals and serves on the Editorial Board of Pathology. His current research areas are in breast and colorectal cancer, stem cell cells, telepathology and digital imaging.
